This study aims to describe the critical thinking skills of class VIII students at SMP Negeri 1 Narmada in solving story problems based on a two-variable system linear equations. type research is called descriptive qualitative. The instrument used this uses stages Perkins and Murphy's skills, namely (1) clarification, (2) assessment, (3) inference, (4) strategy. subjects were from VIII.8, which consisted 36 students, then given essay tests interviews. test results data analyzed determine categories students' abilities high, medium, low categories. Then interviews conducted examine that had been obtained by indicate 14% with high have not able complete strategy stage. Fifthly percent moderate inference stages. Thirty-six all shows material equation are medium category.
